Rehabilitation Center

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a specialty of rehabilitative medicine which prevents, identifies, corrects, and alleviates dysfunctions of movement. Physical therapists also evaluate, prevent and relieve pain from injury, disease, and disorders.

The Center offers comprehensive rehabilitation to meet the needs of our patients from birth defects, neurological disorders, arthritis, and minor to complicated orthopedic conditions.

Begun early, physical therapy can significantly improve an individual's abilities and quality of life. Since the Center first opened in 1950, it has met the needs of many children. Our therapists are trained to maximize the potential of infants, toddlers, and adolescents through stimulation, sensory integration, neuro-developmental techniques, and developmental facilitation.

Pediatric rehabilitation is optimized with an assorted approach utilizing the most effective treatments individualized to each child. The staff stresses the importance of family interaction and participation in a non-threatening "play" environment.

The Physical Therapy Department is designed to accommodate adult rehabilitative needs. Besides offering an array of therapy and exercise equipment and modalities, we provide manual therapeutic techniques with an emphasis on returning to a productive lifestyle.

Significant attention is placed on educating the patient in proper body mechanics and posture in order to promote prevention and improve function.

With the approaching maturation of 70 million ageing “baby boomers” the Center places a special emphasis on the unique needs of this group. For the patient with geriatric and/or neurological concerns, treatment may include education of the diagnosis and related health issues, safety instruction, joint protection techniques, and balance and coordination training. Mobility training and assessment for home equipment needs are also integral to this rehabilitation.

The staff promotes a proactive patient role through education and goal-directed therapy. Patients benefit from traditional physical therapy as well as aquatic rehabilitation. To decrease the risk of reoccurrence or re-injury, we meet the needs of the patient after discharge by offering many community programs such as the Arthritis Aquatic Program and the Independent Aquatic Program.

The Physical Therapy Department is committed to providing quality physical therapy and to consistently exceed the expectations of our patients and their referring physicians.

Physical therapy is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance companies. A physician prescription is required to initiate services.
